Making baby food at home is one of the easiest ways to know exactly what your baby is eating. Many packaged baby foods contain added sugars, salt, and other unnecessary ingredients, but when you make it yourself you can keep things simple: fruits, vegetables, and nothing else.
Homemade baby food is also incredibly affordable, easy to prepare, and you can make several servings at once and store them for later. Below are a few simple baby puree recipes that are perfect for little ones who are starting solids.
Carrot, Sweet Potato & Pea Puree
This nutrient-rich combination is naturally sweet and packed with vitamins. Carrots and sweet potatoes provide vitamin A, while peas add fiber and plant-based protein.
Ingredients
1 medium carrot, peeled and chopped
1 small sweet potato, peeled and cubed
½ cup peas (fresh or frozen)
Water, breast milk, or formula for blending
Instructions
Place the chopped carrot and sweet potato in a steamer basket and steam for about 10–12 minutes until soft.
Add the peas and steam for another 3–4 minutes.
Transfer the cooked vegetables to a blender or food processor.
Add a small amount of water, breast milk, or formula and blend until smooth.
Allow the puree to cool before serving.
Tip: As your baby gets older, you can leave the texture slightly thicker instead of fully smooth.
